Vain by Madi Colville-Walker – Song of the Day

'Vain' is out now!

More Madi Colville-Walker Madi Colville-Walker Profile

Madi Colville-Walker is a proud Yorta Yorta woman who is taking the Australian music scene by storm and is an exciting talent that defies musical boundaries. Following on from Less Than A Man, today she releases her new single, Vain – it’s our Song of the Day!

Vain is a song that holds a lot of emotion”, says Madi. “It’s about moving on, not being afraid to stand up for yourself and most importantly putting yourself first.”

The song was inspired in part by Carrie Underwood’s Drinking Alone.

Drinking Alone was released around the same time I was midway writing Vain. What captured my attention was the setting and the depth of the song, being able to listen and gain inspiration from it really gave me the push I needed to finish Vain.”

Vain is Madi’s second release with Red Rebel Music and was again produced by Jason Resch of the Golden Guitar Award winning group, Darlinghurst.

Madi writes from the heart with the ability to transport you to another place – it’s like she’s lived many lifetimes and all her knowledge and wisdom, resilience and survival flows so emotionally through her beautiful storytelling.

Hailing from the Echuca/Moama region, Madi is catching the attention of a number of major artists including Paul Kelly, Archie Roach, Fanny Lumsden and Darlinghurst. She was a finalist for the 2021 Music Victoria Archie Roach Award for ‘Emerging New Talent’ and earlier this year performed live on Seven Network’s Sunrise program.

Madi draws much of her inspiration from her grandfather and Yorta Yorta elder, Archie Walker, along with other musical members of her family. She says, “they’ve not only taught me about music but also the importance of a strong family support network. They continually encourage me to do my best in music and inspire and support me in following my musical dreams.”
