Carter Faith is stepping into a thrilling new chapter. With her debut album Cherry Valley dropping October 3, an upcoming Australian tour supporting Kelsea Ballerini this December, and a surprising acting debut lined up on Netflix, this rising country star is proving she’s much more than just a singer songwriter.

First off, Cherry Valley it’s not just a name, it’s the heartbeat of Faith’s first full length album, a project she’s poured her soul into. “It means everything,” she said. “This is what I do every day, all day, write and make music. Getting to put out my first full length album is really special.” And if you think albums are just collections of songs slapped together at random, think again. Faith is all about that classic album experience, the one where you listen to a record from start to finish and really get lost in the story that is unfolding.

One track in particular, If I Had Never Lost My Mind, “I almost made a whole album called that,” she says. “That song kind of started it all.” But the album title changed along the way, a decision born from the realities of the music business and giving her songs the best possible shot at being heard. “I can be very impatient, but with my music, I tend to be precious. They’re like my little babies,” she laughs. And those babies have a sound that’s a blend of classic country legends like Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton, combined with the modern edge of artists like Kacey Musgraves and Miranda Lambert. Faith also listed some unexpected influences but ones that make total sense when you think about it, artists like Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys and Frank Sinatra.

Her current radio single Bar Star which is climbing the Countrytown Hot 50 Chart. It’s a perfect example of how Faith can switch from heartfelt to hilarious in a heartbeat. She shares the backstory: “My friend calls hot guys at the bar ‘bar stars’, and I just thought that was hilarious. I was like, if that is not a country song, I don’t know what is. And I like the idea of going to the bar and being like, I was a bar star last night. You know?” she laughs. “And so I wanted to write a silly, fun song, and that’s how Bar Star came to be. We wrote it in like an hour, laughing the whole time.” The video even features Billy Bob Thornton - who is not only an incredible actor but also a keen songwriter - who Faith met whilst on a song writing trip in Texas. “He heard my music, wanted to write with me, and we became friends,” she says, still a bit starstruck. “He said if I put out a song called ‘Billy Bob Thornton,’ he needed to be in the video. Obviously, I agreed.”

For die hard fans, the back half of Cherry Valley holds some of Faith’s most cherished tracks, with Changed and Still A Lover standing out as personal favourites, she tucked them near the end of the record because as she puts it “the real ones will listen all the way through,” and those are the ones she’s “protective of.”

The good news keeps on coming for Faith as she recently dropped the news of her Netflix acting debut in a thriller movie. “This is very new to me,” she admits with a laugh. “I’ve never acted before, but I love musical theatre, and this just kind of fell into my lap.” She’s been binge watching Jessica Chastain movies for inspiration and working closely with the director to prepare. “It’s been so fun. I love horror and thriller movies, they’re my favourite genre to relax with.” she laughs.

Faith’s connection with fans is clearly one of her biggest motivations, especially after her first Australian visit earlier this year. She made her debut at CMC Rocks in Ipswich and was blown away by the energy and the fans. “I got to do a meet and greet before my show and met this sweet little boy, Toby, who knew all my songs. It was such a special moment, like, there’s this kid on the other side of the world singing my music. That’s everything to me.” Fans who were there on the Sunday afternoon might even remember the moment Faith jumped down off the stage to sing with Toby, not a dry eye to be seen in Ipswich.

Faith’s live shows are truly something special, full of energy and emotion as well as intentional crowd interaction. You wouldn’t know it by looking at her up on stage, as she looks like a total pro, but before hitting the stage “I freak out internally. It takes me a whole song to settle in, and maybe a glass or two of wine or a quick shot helps calm the nerves.” she says with a grin and making us love her even more.

Fans in Australia have even more to look forward to as Faith returns in December to join Ballerini on a national arena tour. “We’re going to play a lot of new songs from the album, which will be totally different from what I played last time,” she says.

When questioned about what she wanted to do or see this time around. It was a simple and quick answer “I never had Vegemite when I was there, so I feel like I need to have it every day when I’m back,” she laughs.

With Cherry Valley about to drop, a second Australian trip incoming, and a Netflix thriller on the horizon, Carter Faith is making waves and she’s doing it with a mix of honesty, humour, and a whole lot of heart.

It’s safe to say this is only the beginning for the country star who’s rewriting the rules on what it means to be a modern artist.
