More Midland More Midland

CountryTown is proud to announce US country superstars Midland, as our Artist Of The Week, following the release of their new album The Last Resort: Greetings From (out today) and the announcement of their Australian tour of the same name.

The Grammy-nominated trio from Texas, featuring vocalist Mark Wystrach, guitarist Jess Carson and bass player Cameron Duddy, will travel their brand of country, which is rooted in tradition in both sound and style, up and down the East Coast from early December. The band’s last visit to Australia was in support of second album Let It Roll, which was a top five release on the Australian Country Album ARIA Charts.

With support from Australia’s own Travis Collins across all shows except Melbourne, the band’s return is in support of their new album, The Last Resort: Greetings From, which was created during the pandemic as the trio explored their creative depths, tapping into post-urban cowboy and more.

Midland says, “We cannot wait to get back to Australia! We had such a great time down there in 2019 when we got to party with you all! It’s been too long and we look forward to escaping the Texas winter and enjoying some sun and playing some great music for our Aussie Midlanderos in December!”

Formed in 2016, the trio took their name from the Yoakam song Fair to Midland, and released their first song Fourteen Gears in 2015. The song, according to Duddy, was "another one of the early moments that defined and solidified the band." A year later, Midland signed to Big Machine Records, releasing a self-titled EP.

Midland made a huge splash in 2017 with their acclaimed debut album, On the Rocks, which featured #1 single Drinkin’ Problem, which earned the band their first Grammy Awards nominations for ‘Best Country Song’ and ‘Best Country Duo/Group Performance’. The album also peaked at #72 on the ARIA charts.

Following their 2019 album release, Let It Roll, the band released the 2020 live album, Live from the Palomino and the EP, The Last Resort, in 2021, which hit #47 on the Billboard Album Sales Chart.

Midland were named ‘New Vocal Group of the Year’ at the 2018 ACM Awards and have been nominated for five CMA Awards including ‘New Artist of the Year’ and ‘Vocal Group of the Year’ in both 2018 and 2020. They were also nominated for ‘Vocal Group of the Year’ at the ACM and CMT Awards.
