Wise Woman by Mallory Johnson and Twin Kennedy – Song of the Day

Nashville-based but Canadian-born artists Mallory Johnson and sisters Julie and Carli of Twin Kennedy have teamed up to release Wise Woman. The gentle but powerful track about women empowerment is our Song of the Day!

Wise Woman was produced by Dustin Olyan, and co-produced by Mallory and the Kennedy sisters.

Twin Kennedy says, “We’ve always found that our most personal songs are written with close friends who are also our co-writers. Mallory came over to our house one night, we opened a bottle of wine and sat on the patio with our guitars. Inspired by our shared struggles as women in a male-dominated industry, Wise Woman was born! Maybe it was the patio lights or maybe it was the Merlot – it was one of those songwriting sessions where the music just flowed out of us.”

Mallory adds, “I expected our writing session would quickly turn into a classic girls’ night with wine, pizza, and gossip. But then Carli came out with her guitar and sang a verse of a song she had started titled Wise Woman. I’ll never forget the overwhelming emotions I felt hearing those few words. It was something not only women in the entertainment industry could relate to, but women in any industry. Music is a powerful thing that brings people together and I believe this song fits that description perfectly.”

The music video was directed, produced and edited by Cecil Johnson from Tuckamore Productions, and further fosters a sense of unity through diversity and inclusion.

Mallory says, “Thank you to all of the incredible women who were involved in this project. This video is so special to Twin Kennedy and I, and it meant the world to have all of these beautiful and inspiring women share their stories and hearts with us and all of you. I hope that when you watch it, you see yourself. I hope you feel empowered, confident and brave, cause I sure did when I wrote this song with Julie and Carli, and that's how I feel again when I watch this.”

Wise Woman is the third single off Twin Kennedy’s upcoming album Homebound, following its first two releases Blindspot and Call It Love. Their previous album, A Twin Kennedy Christmas was released in 2017. The sisters have performed on stages like The Bluebird Café in Nashville, The Vancouver Olympics, and Live at Heart Festival in Sweden and have garnered three CCMA (Canadian Country Music Award) nominations.

Mallory has shared the stage with Rascal Flatts and Blake Shelton. She released her debut self-titled EP in 2018, which earned her the 2019 ECMA for ‘Country Recording of the Year’ and three MusicNL nominations for ‘Country Artist’, ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Female Artist of the Year’. She started her professional career performing with the award-winning Celtic family band, The Cormiers. Mallory is currently in the studio working on her upcoming album, which will also include a version of Wise Woman.
