More Darlinghurst More Darlinghurst

Melbourne country-pop band, Darlinghurst continue to go from strength to strength. Following the release of their self-titled debut album in September 2021, the foursome appeared on Vision Australia’s Carols By Candlelight – the musical event that draws live crowds of over 80,000 and is watched on television by hundreds of thousands on Christmas Eve on Channel 9.

The album, which landed at #1 on the ARIA Country Album Chart features their seven previous singles – four of which reached number one – as well as their new single, Unforgettable. It’s our Song of the Day! CountryTown also has the utmost pleasure of sharing the accompanying Ian Ritter-directed music video with you today in this exclusive premiere.

For the first time, band member, Jason Resch takes lead vocal on this beautifully crafted heartfelt ballad. Recorded at Secret Sound Studios in Melbourne, Unforgettable is a perfect song to play at the happiest moments, but also in times of where you wonder what could’ve been.

Jason says, “I think it just really lends to the perspective of the listener. There are people that have been very fortunate to find that certain someone in a lifetime; and if you do, it’s beyond beautiful when you end up sharing your life with them. But from some, they’re just meant to pass through. Either way, you never forget them, and for whatever reason – they’ll leave a life-long impression.”

Since their debut single, Sorry We Won’t Get Back To You in 2019, Darlinghurst have been blazing a path through Australian country music, including scoring a nomination for ‘Best New Talent’ at the 2021 Golden Guitar Awards. Two of their singles have tasted US success, with So Long So Long debuting at #73 on the US Music Row chart, and Gotta Go Rodeo still charting.

Consisting of Jason Resch, Pagan Newman, Cassie Leopold and Matt Darvidis, the story of Darlinghurst is an interesting one … After four years and a run of hits in the UK, as well as stints in Los Angeles and Nashville, Jason returned home to Melbourne at the end of 2015.

Two years later, he met up with Cassie and Pagan in 2017 and they decided to form a band. Cassie did backing vocals for Christine Anu and Olivia Newton-John, and played theme parks in the US, meanwhile, Pagan cut a RNB/Soul album in the US, and is a music teacher. Wanting to expand into a four-piece, their producer suggested Matt – a guitarist from a family of musicians. As soon as he heard the songs, he agreed straight away to join Darlinghurst – and the rest, as they say, is history.

Darlinghurst will be playing at Gippsland Country Music Festival, Deni Ute Muster, Savannah In The Round and the Gympie Music Muster as well as the Tamworth Country Music Festival including at the 50th Anniversary Concert and at West Digger’s alongside Hinterland. They are also nominated for three 2022 Golden Guitar Awards – ‘Contemporary Album Of The Year’, ‘Group or Duo of the Year’ and ‘New Talent Of The Year’ – to be announced in April, following the festival’s postponement.
