We premiere the music video by Chicken and the Egg, a bombastic, super-charged, seventies-inspired country-funk track, by Ben Mastwyk and The Millions.
It is with our greatest pleasure, that Countrytown is able to premiere the music video for Chicken and The Egg, the latest single by seventies-inspired psychedelic countryman, Ben Mastwyk and his band, The Millions.
Chicken and the Egg is a bombastic, super-charged, seventies-inspired country-funk track. Bursting from the speakers with an unapologetic party atmosphere, the song celebrates taking a bite out of everything life has to offer and never looking a gift horse in the mouth. It’s also our Song of the Day!
Ben says,“It’s a fairly light-hearted song written at a time when life was golden. I’d just come out of long dark spell, fallen deeply in love and felt like king of the world. The song emerged out of an offer of breakfast choices, but came to more broadly represent my feelings toward life at the time. Would I like left-over chicken or some eggs? You know what … I’ll take the chicken AND the egg! I guess it’s about making the most of what’s on offer and taking all possible opportunities presented to you. Of course, still remain gracious and humble but you know … don’t be shy, make the most of it.”
The music video was directed by Stu Mannion at The Australian Pinball Museum in Nhill, Australia. The location is presented as the fictitious home of The Millions (Michael Hubbard - Guitars & Vocals/Craig Kelly - Bass & Vocal/ Ben Franz - Pedal Steel/Josh Duiker - Drums), with Ben returning on horse after a long journey, to join The Millions and their entourage for a big party at the motel in the desert.

Ben says, “I'm a big pinball fan. I had heard about this mythical location in Central Victoria called Nhill where, in a small 70s motel, lived the Australian Pinball Museum. Clearly, I was drawn to go and explore this place and on my first visit I knew I had to return to shoot a video. The motel and pinball museum are drenched with intoxicating visual ephemera, but the surrounding landscape is equally stunning.”
Chicken and the Egg is the fourth single from Ben’s forthcoming album Livin’ On Gold Street, which is due for release on Friday, 26 March. Written after a difficult period, Livin’ on Gold Street chronicles the emergence from darkness to light when Ben found himself living, both literally and figuratively, on Gold Street.
Ben is about to hit the road for a run of album launch dates with special guests acclaimed singer-songwriter, Dan Brodie (full band), The Ironbark Brothers, Loretta Miller and DJ Denise Highlands.
