Inspired by struggles experienced in Bonnie Kellett's own life, the song is a fresh take on the saying “you’re getting too big for your boots” that is often thrown around when a person tries to break free.
Sydney-based singer-songwriter, guitarist and violinist, Bonnie Kellett hits the ground running with her debut single, Boots. It’s a total banger and our Song of the Day!
The song, which was penned by Bonnie, and produced by ARIA award-winning producer Govinda Doyle peaked at #2 Country and #32 All Genres on the iTunes charts on release day. Boots is the first of many on the release schedule for Bonnie in 2022, including her debut album, Hidden Spirit.
Boots is an anthem about reclaiming your power and self-worth when others try to bring you down. Inspired by struggles experienced in her own life, the song is a fresh take on the saying “you’re getting too big for your boots” that is often thrown around when a person tries to break free.
Bonnie wanted to inspire others to reclaim their self-worth, despite what other people have to say about it. The song was inspired by Alanis Morrisette’s You Oughta Know and Shania Twain’s Country/Rock/Pop vibes.
Growing up with a musical family in Willunga (a small country town an hour south of Adelaide, Bonnie was brought up on folk festivals and jam nights. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Music from the Australian Institute of Music and an Advanced Diploma, she has performed alongside artists like Jon English, Kasey Chambers and Lee Kernaghan as well as in Nashville.
Bonnie was also a Groundwater’s KIX Start competition finalist in 2021.

Particularly inspired by singer-songwriters Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain and Amy Shark, Bonnie’s lyrics are raw and authentic with a pinch of attitude and wit. With skills in looping, Bonnie also draws creativity from musicians such as Ed Sheeran to incorporate her violin into her live solo performances.
