Zach Bryan has teased the release of a new film—perhaps a documentary—about his “final major-label album.”

Sharing the teaser on Instagram, the film should be titled Motorbreath (as per Bryan’s caption). The clip is a voice memo, seemingly narrated by his Nine Ball co-star, actor Matthew McConaughey (we really hope it isn’t AI, but if it is, it’s extremely impressive).

In the clip, McConaughey says: “This is not a film about a band, this is a film about a boy from Oklahoma.

“A boy who joined the Navy with a love of writing. That writing connected with people, a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America while recording one final major label album.”

Hours before posting the McConaughey voice memo, Bryan unveiled a separate teaser directly quoting the Elliott Smith song, Behind The Bars.

As for the final major-label album, that’s a curious descriptor: is Bryan alluding to a yet-to-be-released collection of work, or last year’s The Great American Bar Scene?

Either way, Bryan consistently keeps his fans on their toes with his unconventional methods for releasing music.

In November, he surprise dropped the tracks This World’s A Giant and High Road while also revealing his plans to quit music to pursue a master’s degree.

Unveiling the inspiration behind the songs, Bryan wrote on social media: “After not being home for a year and a half, I drove out to my mother’s gravestone in the dead of night a few days back on familiar Oklahoma roads, and I came to realise, just like in the past, that she never would call me again.

In April, Bryan is set to headline the California music festival Stagecoach along with Jelly Roll and Luke Combs.
