Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes Is Working On A Country Album

Actor Luke Grimes is working on a country album.

In an interview with Country Living, when asked why he always carries around an acoustic guitar, he revealed, “Having a drum set in New York is impossible—your neighbours would kill you—so I got a guitar and started teaching myself chords. It’s been a part of my life ever since.

If I have an acting gig, I always have a guitar. And not just because I’m working on an album. It’s always been a little buddy that I can take around anywhere. It’s somewhere to put some of that energy when you’re in a new place and don’t know what else to do.”

He added, “Church music was the first music in my life. My dad was a pastor, and I was at church three days a week. I was the church drummer starting at age 9. From there, my dad listened to Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard—all of those old-school outlaw country guys. We would always play that on boys’ trips. It’s what got me into country music.”

He announced his intentions to jump into country music back in January, and later appeared on social media alongside songwriters Jessi Alexander and Ben Hayslip.

Alexander captioned, “I was the lucky girl that got to make up a song today with these boys.”

Grimes previously was in the alt-country band Mitchells Folly with Nashville singer Jesse Cole.

He told Rolling Stone, “It was around that time when the alt-country thing was really going on. Wilco and Ryan Adams were really big then and we were kind of like that. I played guitar too and helped write songs for the band, so I got to be more than just the drummer. It was a cool experience.”

Grimes’ film credits include American Sniper, All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, War Eagle, Taken 2 and Fifty Shades of Grey as well as the neo-Western television drama Yellowstone.
