Morgan Evans says, "I think it’s one of the most badass, weird and wonderful things I’ve ever been a part of!”
Weezer‘s Rivers Cuomo has teamed up with Australian-born, Nashville-based country singer Morgan Evans for a new version of the latter’s Country Outta My Girl. It's our Song of the Day!
After sharing a Weezer-approved cover of their 2001 hit, Island in the Sun to social media last month, Evans received a video response from the band’s front man that blew his mind.
Evans replied, “This is insane!!! You just took this song to the next level!!!”
Written by Evans, Ben Johnson, Hunter Phelps and Mark Holman, the country-pop tune, the original of which was released back in September, hears Evans describes a woman who never forgets her small town, country roots, no matter where she travels.
On Thursday, March 3, Cuomo took to his own social media to offer the new verse on Evan’s current single: “She’s a dumb fling with the tofu fried/ She’s an X-Box, on a Friday night/ She doesn’t give a damn about sports/ Not gettin’ in your four by four/ From LAX to BNA, every day/ Yeah, she’s singing.” The comment section exploded with requests from fans for a full version of the song, prompting Evans to release Country Outta My Girl (feat. Rivers Cuomo of Weezer).
Evans shared the final collaboration on social media writing, “Rivers re-wrote the 2nd verse and chorus for this version, and I think it’s one of the most badass, weird and wonderful things I’ve ever been a part of! I hope this puts a big smile on your face today.”
