On Thursday, 18th February 2021, Facebook made the decision to ban publishers and users in Australia from sharing or viewing any news articles on its platform. This decision was made in response to the Australian government’s proposed media bargaining laws and has a big impact on us here at Countrytown.
What this means for us is that we are now restricted from sharing our Countrytown content on our Facebook page, along with all other news outlets in Australia.
Country music media is scarce as it is. It’s one of the biggest music genres in the world, but is overwhelmingly underrepresented when it comes to outlets and blogs. We took the gamble last year to put our money where our mouth is and support the country scene and we’re glad we did. The support we’ve had has been overwhelming and we’ve been glad to be able to give back to the community,
But today, we need your help.
