Country music icon, Shania Twain will play Mrs. Potts in the upcoming two-hour animated and live-action special, Beauty and the Beast, as part of the Disney classic’s 30th anniversary celebration.

The star-studded cast also features H.E.R. as Belle, Josh Groban as the Beast, Joshua Henry as Gaston, Rita Moreno as the narrator, Martin Short as Lumiere, Rizwan Manji as LeFou, David Allen Grier as Cogsworth, Jon Jon Briones as Maurice and Leo Abuelo Perry as Chip.

Critically acclaimed directors Hamish Hamilton and executive producer Jon M. Chu called in Twain to star as Mrs. Potts, the friendly tea kettle known for her powerful pipes and mother to son Chip. The casting of Mrs. Potts comes shortly after the original voiceover actress, Angela Lansbury, died at age 96.

“I am unbelievably honoured…and excited…and all of the emotions(!!) to announce that I will be joining the cast of #BeautyAndTheBeast30th to play the part of my favourite character – Mrs. Potts,” Twain wrote. “And of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t pay tribute to the iconic Angela Lansbury, I mean she IS Mrs. Potts and the reason why this character is so beloved. To follow in the footsteps of such an icon is a huge honour, and I hope to do the part justice.”

Last month, Twain dropped her first new single in six years, Waking Up Dreaming. It followed the release of her Netflix documentary, Shania Twain: Not Just A Girl, in July.

The single marked the start of the Canadian artist's next chapter, according to social media.

“Every time I get to announce something like this, I get such a rush of adrenaline and nerves — it never gets old… I am super excited to share with you that my new song Waking Up Dreaming is coming out this Friday!!” Twain captioned. “I’ve spent the last couple years working away on new music… on my documentary… on the Vegas residency and it’s been such a creatively fulfilling time for me, I can’t wait for this next chapter and Waking Up Dreaming is just the start.”

Known for hits like Man! I Feel Like A Woman, From This Moment On, That Don’t Impress Me Much and You’re Still The One, Twain has had an illustrious career in the music business having sold over 100 million records to date and gaining the label of “Queen of Country Pop”.

Beauty And The Beast: A 30th Celebration, presented by The Wonderful World of Disney, will be taped in front of a live audience and will air on Thursday, December 15 on ABC and Disney+.
