Phil Vassar returns with series 3 of Songs from the Cellar with all previous episodes being released on a weekly podcast.
Phil Vassar’s performance series Songs from the Cellar is returning for a third season and – being in Australia – sadly, we can’t watch it. But, now we can have the next best thing with audio from all previous episodes being released on a weekly basis on Phil Vassar’s Songs from the Cellar Podcast.
Songs from the Cellar enjoyed a successful inaugural season with guests including Cam, John Rich, Hunter Hayes and Charles Esten from the television musical drama, Nashville. A star-studded second season followed, with a guest line up including Brothers Osborne, Vince Gill and Kellie Pickler.
Season three features a line-up of guests including Tracy Lawrence, Matt Ramsey of Old Dominion, Jo Dee Messina and Lonestar. This season also introduces two new segments including ‘Rising Women of Country’ with guests Stephanie Quayle, Parker McKay, Arielle and Kasey Tyndall and ‘Phil’s Pick’ featuring fellow Virginia native, Lexie Hayden.
In 2015, Vassar completed his underground wine cellar at his historic Nashville estate, built in 1929, and filled it with wine, liquor, candles, and a piano. The cellar quickly become one of Vassar’s favourite rooms in the house to write, sing and hang out with friends, which led to the show’s initial concept.

Vassar says, “This is a first for us, and it’ll be a real treat for our fans. We always wanted to bring them into our home and witness some of the magic that can happen when we play with icons like Charles Esten, Steve Cropper and Jeffrey Steele along with newcomers like Cam and Hunter Hayes. We found Songs from the Cellar was the perfect opportunity to sip a favourite drink, share some stories behind the music and sing our hearts out.”
Vassar began his career penning hits for several country artists, including Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina. He signed a record deal of his own in 1998, and has since released ten albums resulting in 10 number one singles and 26 Top 40 hits, including Carlene, Just Another Day in Paradise, Six-Pack Summer and In Real Love.
His latest album Stripped Down was released last year, featuring songs written over the past 20 years but never-before recorded and new music including This Is Where the End Starts, co-written with his daughter, Haley Vassar.
