Despite backlash and being removed from country radio and prominent streaming playlists following a racial slur in February, Morgan Wallen’s record-breaking sophomore project, Dangerous: The Double Album is the best-selling album of 2021 across all genres, with a whopping 3.2 million copies sold.

Wallen said on social media, “Thank you to everyone who played a part in the creation and execution of this album. My entire team stepped up and continues to step up daily for me and for each other. I am honoured to work beside you. You all know who you are. Thank you to my fans for supporting and believing in me. This couldn’t have been accomplished without God’s grace and without a common love for the country music I’ve been so blessed to be able to make.”

The album finished ahead of Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album, SOUR and Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.

Dangerous was also the first album to spend its first 10 weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 since 1987, when Whitney Houston’s Whitney album logged all 11 of its weeks at number one starting from its debut week (from the June 27 through Sept. 5, 1987-dated charts). Dangerous is the only country album to spend its first 10 weeks at number one on the Billboard 200 since the chart began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in March 1956. Further, Dangerous is one of just four country albums to spend at least 10 weeks in total at number one on the weekly Billboard 200.

Of the album, Wallen originally stated, "The 'double album' idea started off as just a joke between me and my manager because we had accumulated so many songs over the past couple of years. Then quarantine hit, and we realised it might actually be possible to have enough time to make it happen. I also ended up writing quite a few more songs during the quarantine with some of my good buddies. I also wanted the songs to speak to multiple phases of life and have multiple different sounds based on my influences and based on what I enjoy."
