Miranda Lambert’s documentary about the making of The Marfa Tapes – previously only available to stream on Lambert’s official Facebook page for a limited time – will premiere on Paramount+ on January 20.

Directed by Spencer Peeples, the documentary follows the making of Lambert’s 2021 release collaboration with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall as they write their Grammy-nominated album.

Filmed during the five-day recording session, the documentary gives viewers a rare insight into the creative process of making of the 15-song collection, live performances set against the West Texas backdrop, and also includes candid interviews with Lambert, Randall and Ingram.

“I think you just let your guard down out here a little bit,” Lambert says in the trailer for the film. “You’re free to be you. It’s scary, it’s risky and very, very vulnerable and not have any fixes and not have any production, it’s just let the wind blow and the birds and the cows. I feel like we’re taking people on a raw and intimate journey.”

Lambert first announced the album collaboration with the fellow Texan singer-songwriters following the release of the first single In His Arms back in March 2021. The trio recorded much of the album outdoors, inviting the ambient sounds of the desert to seep into their live, bare-bones performances, and the atmosphere is utterly transportive.

The Marfa Tapes has since been nominated for ‘Best Country Album’ at the 64th annual Grammy Awards.
