Melody Moko is set to release a digital live album on July 1.

The eight-track project, recorded at The Triffid in Brisbane last year between lockdowns, captures an intimate acoustic performance of Moko and her husband Michael. This performance was extra special as it was her first gig back after giving birth to their third child, Maisy.

Featuring personal stories in between the beautiful renditions of songs like Benjamin, Like Hank Would and Last Cigarette, Moko says, “It’s the raw bits. The real bits. The rad bits.”

Melody Moko Live follows 2020’s Two Kids And A Radio. The album entered the ARIA Australian Country Albums Chart at #1, #3 ARIA Country Albums, #9 ARIA Australian Albums and #1 AIR 100% Independent Albums. It also earned a ‘Alt Country Album of The Year’ nomination at the 2021 Golden Guitar Awards. Moko was, however, awarded the Golden Guitar for ‘New Talent of The Year’ for the song, Like Hank Would. She was also named a nominee for the prestigious Australian Music Prize and a finalist for the Q Music Awards.

Moko recently dropped the eighth single off the album. Save Me Rock N’ Roll tells the story of a musician, who constantly feels they are falling short regardless of working themself to the bone.

While talking about Two Kids and A Radio, Moko described it as, “the MA version, the indie film, the nude scenes, the gross things and the stuff that makes listeners uncomfortable but needs to be said.”

Born and raised in Adelaide, Moko knew early on that she “wanted to sing like Linda Ronstadt and write songs like Bob Dylan.” With the encouragement from her father, she began travelling around Australia, playing her songs, and winning songwriting awards in her early teens. She later went to the US, where she performed at iconic country music venues such as Nashville’s famous Bluebird Cafe, The Continental Club in Austin and Hank William’s favourite hangout, Tootsies.

In 2017, she released her debut album The Wreckage, co-produced by Michael Moko and award-winning songwriter Catherine Britt. The album earned her a CMC ‘New Artist’ nomination, and saw her play shows with Fanny Lumsden, The McClymonts and Britt.
