Lainey Wilson is capping off an already impressive 2024 with the news that she’s been shortlisted for her first Oscar award.

Along with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (of Nine Inch Nails fame), Elton John and Brandi Carlile, Pharrell, Robbie Williams, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and others, Wilson has been shortlisted for the coveted Best Original Song award at the 2025 Oscars ceremony.

Wilson has been shortlisted for her song Out Of Oklahoma from the Twisters soundtrack. A film packed with original new songs from country stars including Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Thomas Rhett, Megan Moroney, Jelly Roll, Bailey Zimmerman, Kane Brown, Shania Twain, and many more, any one of those songs would have been a great pick for Best Original Song.

You can find the full shortlist of Best Original Song tracks below.

In addition to the Best Original Song shortlist, the Academy Awards revealed shortlist categories for Best International Film, Documentary, Animated and Live Action Best Makeup, Visual Effects, and Sound this week.

The official nominees for the 2025 Academy Awards (the 97th edition) will be unveiled on 17 January 2025, with the official Oscars ceremony held on 2 March.

While Wilson didn’t share an official reaction to being shortlisted for the Oscars, she did post “Let’s goooooo” and tagged the Twisters movie Instagram account on her Instagram Stories.

This year, Lainey Wilson was invited into the Grand Ole Opry by Reba McEntire, had a highway in Louisiana named after her, co-hosted the CMA Awards, shared her new album, Whirlwind, and was interviewed by Countrytown for a second time. You can check out that interview here.
