Jelly Roll has finally released the highly anticipated single Liar, with the music video premiering on CMT.
The singer first debuted the song at the ACM Awards back in May, where he was a first-time and four-time nominee. Jelly Roll debuted another song in May, I Am Not OK, which he premiered on The Voice finale.
The music video, which premiered 12 hours ago, finds Jelly Roll embracing elements of pop country – big, bright melodies with a fast-paced acoustic guitar, slide in the second verse, and banjo in the chorus – as he delves into past traumas.
He sings in an abandoned room, inspiring handclaps and a gospel singalong in the bridge. Sure to be an addictive song that also helps fans who have been a lot and also confronting their pasts, Jelly Roll remains relatable and heartfelt.
You can watch the music video below.
Earlier this year, Jelly Roll revealed that he was “on the fence” about releasing Liar in an official capacity.

“I felt like it was important to start the new era of music at the ACMs because we had done Save Me there. We launched me and Lainey [Wilson] there,” he said in an interview with Taste Of Country Nights. “I think that as we’re celebrating Halfway To Hell going No. 1, it’s kind of the end of the Whitsitt Chapel era.”
Jelly Roll continued, “I don’t even know if we’re going to put Liar out. I’m still on the fence about it,” he said, explaining that putting a “flag in the ground” at the ACM Awards was important.
The singer shared some hints about his forthcoming album: “There’s a lot of storytelling on this album.
“I wrote probably a hundred and something songs, maybe a hundred and fifty plus, trying to figure this album out. I’ve never been so inspired, though. I was getting so many stories. People were pouring into me. I mean, I’m at gas stations and red carpets, and people are telling me their life stories—really inspiring stories. I’ve never written more.”
In other Jelly Roll news, the singer was recently named Deputy Sheriff of Genesee County in Michigan and collaborated with mgk on the song Lonely Road, which interpolates the John Denver classic Take Me Home, Country Roads.
