James Johnston just ticked off another career milestone with a main stage moment at the Australian Open yesterday, stepping onto one of the world’s biggest sporting stages to perform ONE MORE and absolutely smashing it.

Fresh off a huge weekend in Tamworth, where he took home a Golden Guitar on Saturday night for Top Selling Country Album of the Year, Johnston brought country music energy straight into Melbourne Park proving once again that Aussie country is taking over the mainstream.

ONE MORE has already become a fan favourite track on Johnston’s latest album WHERE YOU’LL FIND ME and it felt especially fitting in the Australian Open setting. The performance cut through the noise, offering a pause from the action without losing the buzz of the day.

“Pretty dam cool way to spend Australia Day 🇦🇺 singing at the tennis!!! Shout out to Cowboys and Angels dance team for joining me up there. I only found out they were joining me a few days before the show and I thought they absolutely smashed it! Thankyou” Johnston shared via Instagram.

Just days earlier, Johnston was in Tamworth celebrating his Golden Guitar win, marking another major career moment, but yesterday’s Australian Open appearance showed how quickly that momentum is carrying beyond traditional country spaces.

Country music has been creeping into mainstream Aussie culture for a while now and Johnston is one of the artists right at the centre of that shift. His songs feel personal but also universal, and showing up in spaces where you might not expect a country artist to be makes us even more glad to see one.

From Tamworth stages to Melbourne Park, Johnston’s weekend run has been less about genre and more about connection. And it’s probably safe to say we’re going to be hearing and seeing a lot more moments like this.
