Jake Owen is stripping it all back and getting real. The country hitmaker, known for his laid back beachy charm and chart topping hits, is turning a new page with Dreams to Dream a deeply personal album co-produced with Shooter Jennings.
With ten #1 hits already behind him, Owen says this new chapter reflects the man he’s become. “I've just become a guy that wants to sing songs for people that have also matured with me in my life,” he explains. “Sometimes you need to get outside what's comfortable, what people think you are, or think you should be, and take a risk. I'm always going to chase the passions that keep me moving forward.”
Those passions are obvious in Dreams to Dream. The album is rooted in honesty, love, loss and lessons learned. “It really feels cathartic to be honest about a lot of stuff in my life - how I feel, where I see myself going, and how I see myself going there,” Owen shares.
The album’s latest single Wouldn’t Be Gone captures that spirit perfectly. It’s a reflective track imagining an alternate life, a quieter existence “back home” spent watching his kids grow up. It’s a what if daydream that hits close to home for anyone balancing ambition with the pull of family and simplicity.
Previous releases like Middle Age Crazy, Long Time Lovin’ You and the title track Dreams to Dream previewed the emotional honesty fans can expect throughout. A standout moment comes with his reimagined take on Waylon Jennings’ Them Old Love Songs, featuring Savannah Conley which is a nod to country’s past with Owen’s own soulful spin. The record also includes a guest appearance from Jamey Johnson on The Jukebox Knows.
