“I try to find humor in the little, mundane things," said Hoot. "My hope is that parents in every season of parenting know they’re not alone."

Jake Hoot might be many things to many people – country musician, former winner of The Voice, and more – but now he can add ‘children’s book author’ to his growing list of accomplishments.

Arriving this month, The Great Big Blowout is Hoot’s debut foray into the world of book-writing, with the lighthearted story being inspired by a true story.

The story – which is paired with illustrations from children’s book author and illustrator Izzy B – follows a mother and father and their baby enoying a peaceful afternoon at the park until the titular nappy blowout strikes.

With no replacement in sight, it follows the father as he scrambles around the park for a suitable – if creative – solution.

“In my ten years of being a dad, I’ve learned that parenting comes with plenty of stressful and overwhelming moments,” Hoot said in a statement. “But in the grand scheme of life, it’s so much better to laugh at those moments. They’re the memories that will last a lifetime.

“I try to find humor in the little, mundane things. My hope is that parents in every season of parenting know they’re not alone. There are many highs and lows along the way, and the journey becomes a lot more enjoyable when we choose to laugh through it, knowing that not everything will be picture perfect.”

Alongside the book, Hoot has also penned a track inspired by the story, which is available now on YouTube. Extending the message of the book through music with warmth and heart, it’s a fitting, lighthearted approach to his debut book.

Hoot first rose to widespread fame in 2019 as the winner of season 17 of The Voice, when his first daughter – Macy – was just four years old. He welcomed his second daughter in 2022, with his third daughter arriving in 2024.

Though there’s no word if his ever-growing family may inspire further books down the line, Hoot has released a handful of tracks in recent months, including November’s Demons and a cover of Mary’s Boy Child for Christmas, while he teamed up with Becca Bowen in January to release Sometimes I Do.

Copies of Hoot’s debut book, The Great Big Blowout, are available to order now.
