American singer-songwriter, Gavin DeGraw (perhaps best known for his breakout hit, I Don’t Want To Be from his 2002 debut album, Chariot) responded to a TikTok user’s challenge, which ultimately led him to soulfully cover Maren Morris’ hit, My Church.

In a TikTok video, DeGraw responded to the user’s comment “Dare you to go into a record store blindfolded, pick a record and then do a cover song of whoever you picked” in epic style. The video shows DeGraw, walk blindly through Grimey’s, an independent record store in Nashville, Tennessee, and pick up Hero, Morris’ 2016 debut studio album.

He then delivers a powerful acoustic rendition of My Church. DeGraw sings: “Can I get a hallelujah?/ Can I get an amen?/ Feels like the Holy Ghost runnin' through ya/ When I play the Highway FM/ I find my soul revival/ Singin' every single verse/ Yeah, I guess that's my church.”

My Church was Morris’ lead single from Hero. The song, which wrote the co-wrote and co-produced with busbee, won the award for ‘Best Country Solo Performance’ at the 2017 GRAMMY Awards. The church in the song is used figuratively to describe the sanctuary that the narrator feels is her car when she plays music on the Highway FM radio while driving.

The 11-track collection, which received a ‘Best Country Album’ GRAMMY nomination, also includes Rich, 80s Mercedes, I Could Use A Long Song and more. A deluxe edition of the album was released in 2017, and features Bummin' Cigarettes, Space and Company You Keep.
