Episodes 1 and 2 are available now!
Fanny Lumsden has started her own podcast to further explore her award-winning album, fallow and its reinterpretation, fallow & Variations. The Deep In The Fallow podcast digs deeper into the themes and ideas from the songs from Fallow across twelve episodes.
The about page reads: ‘We will look into what it is about the mountains, why people pee in the pools, what being a grown up means and who decides who wins tidy town of the year. There will be special guests, bird sounds, feelings, and facts. Very glad you could join us.’
The current episodes range between 19 and 36 minutes long.
Lumsden shared the exciting news on Twitter on July 8, “We have just released a new Song Stories series where we dig a little deeper and talk to people about the mountains, their funeral plans, if you peed in a pool etc! Episode 1 & 2 are out now and it’s 2 yes in the making!” [sic]

Lumsden’s third album, fallow was released on March 13, 2020. Recorded throughout the blistering 2019/2020 summer amidst the disruption of the devastating bushfires and released on the day the music industry shut down due to COVID, the album was embraced by the public, supportive radio and critics, winning Lumsden many accolades including an ARIA Award for 'Best Country Album', 5 x Golden Guitars and AIR 'Country Album of the Year'.
fallow & Variations was released on March 11, 2022, and features reinterpretations of its 12 song catalogue. The album saw Lumsden, Dan Stanley Freeman and several guests head back into the studio, with Matt Fell back at the helm, to show another side to fallow.
Lumsden said of the album, “I feel like there was so much more to explore with fallow, that often you get to experience out sharing the songs and stories with people face to face, however due to the fact that touring was stilted so many times, we had to find different ways to tell the stories and explore the songs a little more. It feels a little exciting and a little, almost akin to relief, to share the songs in a different way.”
Lumsden is currently on her Deep In The Fallow tour with our Artist of the Week, New Zealand alt-country singer songwriter, Jenny Mitchell – find dates here.
