This September, country artists Chris Stapleton, Mickey Guyton, Jon Pardi and Darius Rucker will help pay tribute the heavy metal band with a massive album titled The Metallica Blacklist.
Helping mark the 30th anniversary of Metallica’s self-titled fifth album, commonly known as The Black Album, the project features 53 artists spanning a vast range of genres, generations, cultures, continents and more, covering their favourite song from The Black Album in their own way. That means there are multiple versions of the same track, with popular favourites like Nothing Else Matters getting covered 12 times.
It’s no secret that the album is one of the most commercially successful records of all time. Its 1991 release propelled Metallica to bona fide household name superstardom, and its impact and relevance have only grown with the years: The Black Album remains the best-selling album of the past three decades, and one of only two albums that have spent 550+ weeks on the Billboard 200.
The Metallica Blacklist arrives on September 10 for digital streaming (standard and high-def versions) and on limited edition 7LP vinyl and 4CD on October 1. All profits will be split evenly between Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and a charity selected by each artist.
