Casey Barnes Tops ARIA's Australian Albums, Country Charts With 'Made For This'

Casey Barnes is deep in celebration mode, continuing his current run of national tour dates as new album Made For This heads to the top of the Australian Albums chart.

Released last Friday (August 7th), Made For This is Barnes’ latest full-length release, and comes 22 years into his storied career.

It arrives after plenty of time spent in the spotlight for the Tasmanian artist, including the record’s title track – “a song about backing yourself when everything’s on the line” – becoming the soundtrack to Channel Nine’s NRL coverage.

It appears that Barnes’ current era is a big one, however, with Made For This now finding itself having done extremely well in the latest ARIA charts.

Most notably, it sees Barnes topping the Australian Albums chart, appearing ahead of acts such as Bachelor Girl, Don Walker, Rowena Wise, and Adalita.

It doesn't end there, however. It also tops the Country Albums chart, and sits at No. 6 on the main Albums chart – appearing right between Oliva Dean and Laufey, and giving Barnes his highest-placing record on the main chart to date, besting 2024's Mayday by five positions.

Barnes – who is currently in Victoria as part of his national Made For This tour – expressed his excitement at the milestone while preparing for his St Kilda show last night.

“ We did it, guys. Here it is, my first ever ARIA number one album,” he enthused. “We're here at The Espy, about to celebrate tonight, but [I] couldn't have done this without you guys, so thank you.

“Lost for words,” he added. “This is incredible. This is for you.”

Speaking to Countrytown ahead of the record’s release, Barnes shared some of the lessons he’s learned along the way of his 20-plus-year career. “Gee whiz, the longer I’ve done it, the wiser I’ve got,” he stated. “Just never give up.

“I’ve also learned about getting the balance right: when you really, really want something, you don’t need to push too hard. Sometimes when you push too hard, you can nearly push the dream away.

“It’s all about getting that balance right and then being ready for the opportunity when it presents itself.”
