Casey Barnes’ SHOCK Cancer Scare!

Gold Coast-based country pop rock singer-songwriter, Casey Barnes has shared his recent shock cancer scare on social media.

“To be honest, I was going to keep this all private but figure if by me posting this it saves even one person then it’s worth it,” Barnes started. “I’ve spent a lot of time outdoors growing up, years of playing footy, cricket, daily runs and living by the beach. Sort of comes with the territory living in Australia. I’ve always been sun smart and worn SPF 50+ and got regular skin checks.”

He continued, “A few months back, I went in for my yearly check-up and there were 2 x new moles that the Dr (thankfully) spotted… I had the option of leaving it another 3 months to see if they changed or getting a biopsy done straight away. Not sure why, but I had a weird gut feeling so opted for the biopsy on the day and a week later they both came back as early melanomas. LAST thing I was expecting. In fact, the one on the inside of my arm measured just 0.9mm which makes it literally one of the smallest on record… you’d nearly miss it as it was hidden near my tattoo. Yesterday, I had to go in and have both surgically removed… which will leave pretty nasty scars but thankfully we’ve caught them early."

He finished the post encouraging others to get checked too:

“I never thought I’d ever have a Dr tell me I had a melanoma… so I guess my message to you guys is to take this stuff seriously. Go and get yourself checked TODAY, every year, even if you don’t go out in the sun all that often. Huge wake up call for me and hope by me sharing this it may help someone else.”

Fellow Australian country artists Hayley Jensen, Amy Sheppard, Amber Lawrence, Melanie Dyer, Caitlyn Shadbolt, Jayne Denham, Matt Cornell, Rachael Fahim and more sent their well wishes.

Fahim wrote, “Omg Case, so so good that you trusted your gut... glad you’re okay x”, while Tori Darke commented, “Oh my goodness. So glad you got checked buddy. Glad you are ok x”

Jensen replied, “Shivers mate! So lucky you caught them!! Good reminder… I’m definitely overdue for another check-up. Booking now!” and Denham said, “Holy cow! Thank God you went with your gut feeling to get a biopsy. And glad you shared it mate it will help others that’s for sure.”
