Carly Pearce has shared a health update with her fans on social media, revealing that she’s been diagnosed with the heart condition pericarditis.
A condition that involves the inflammation of the pericardium, the thin, double-layered membrane around the heart, pericarditis is marked by sharp chest pain that worsens when lying down or breathing in (via Health Direct)—the latter likely challenging for Pearce, as singers require breathing exercises and techniques.
Other symptoms of pericarditis could include fever, muscle aches and pains, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, nausea, dry cough, and swelling around the legs or abdomen.
Addressing her fans in an Instagram video, Pearce began, “I have always been transparent and honest about every area of my life, so I feel like this deserves the same honesty.
“You guys know that I have been dealing with some health issues. Through that, I've developed something called pericarditis, which is a heart issue.”
Pearce went on to tell fans that her upcoming touring plans will be affected, as she needs to rework her performances and ensure that she can monitor her heart rate while on the road.

She continued, “I've been working with doctors and talking to my cardiologist, and I still want to be out on the road; it's really important to me, but we have all decided that it is in my best interest as I'm healing to alter my shows a little bit.
“If my shows look a little bit different, just know it's because I have to keep my heart rate under control right now. That doesn't mean that I'm not gonna be completely fine; it just means, right now, I've got to really take this seriously.”
Pearce ended the video by reminding viewers of the importance of listening to your body, reminding us all that anything can happen – anyone can be diagnosed with a heart condition after suffering from other health issues.
“If any of you are dealing with any kind of health stuff or aren't — I'm a really healthy person that really watches what I eat and exercises, and this happened to me — I just want to use my platform to tell you to take care of your body and listen to it,” she said.
Carly Pearce will release her new album, Hummingbird, next week via Big Machine Records. It is the follow-up to 2021’s 29: Written In Stone.
