World records and city limits were broken last week as almost 3000 music lovers helped dance their way to a new World Record for the Largest Nutbush Dance to the Tina Turner classic on the last day of the Birdsville Big Red Bash in Queensland's Simpson Desert.

The dance is a tradition for the world's most remote music festival. Participants register online before the event for a small fee with every cent going to the festival's charity partner, the Royal Flying Doctor Service. This year, more than $46,000 was raised from the Nutbush City Limits alone, and a total of more than $100,000 across the three event days.

The new World Record broke the previous record of 2,330 in 2019 at the Big Red Bash.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions locking some people out of the state, close to 10,000 people ventured to the foothills of the Big Red sand dune outside Birdsville for the family event.

Iconic Australian singers Paul Kelly, Ian Moss, John Williamson and Daryl Braithwaite headlined alongside Russell Morris, Glenn Shorrock, Thirsty Merc, Ross Wilson, The Black Sorrows and Vika & Linda. Wendy Matthews, Chocolate Starfish, Bjorn Again, Caitlyn Shadbolt, The Crack Up Sisters and the Big Red Bash band also performed.

Kate Ceberano, Dragon, Mi Sex, Steve Balbi, Shannon Noll, Mark Gable, The Radiators and Furnace and the Fundamentals were replaced by Eurogliders, Busby Marou, Sarah McLeod, Brian Cadd, The Chantoozies and Kyle Lionheart last minute.

After a hugely successful sold out event in 2019, which saw over 9000 in attendance, the Big Red Bash was cancelled in 2020 due to ongoing pandemic.

The 2021 Big Red Bash took place on 6-8 of July. For more information, head to the website.
