Let’s Rally For Country Music Hero Oz Bayldon Before His Brain Surgery

If you’ve ever been to the Gympie Music Muster, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Oz Bayldon and if you haven’t, you’ve likely felt the ripple effects of his work.

Bayldon has spent years putting others first. Whether it’s through his grassroots charity Events 4 Greater Good, volunteering with Noosa Come Together and the Gympie Music Muster, supporting social enterprise Making Lives Matter, or building and continuing to support a girls shelter in Nepal, Bayldon has given his time, heart, and resources without hesitation. 

He's been the guy showing up at all hours to help people fleeing domestic violence find emergency accommodation, and the guy mentoring youth here and overseas through music and advocacy. Put simply: Bayldon doesn’t just talk about community, he lives it.

Now, that same community is rallying around him.

Bayldon recently suffered a double brain aneurysm, requiring urgent surgery and a long recovery period. And while he would never ask for help himself, his friends and local leaders have stepped in on his behalf. A GoFundMe has been launched to ensure Bayldon and his family can focus on recovery without the weight of financial stress.

“Noosa wouldn’t be what it is without Oz,” says Bob Birkhead, who teamed up with Naomi Todd of the Noosa Community Notice Board to create the fundraiser. “Oz has been the heart and soul for our community for many years and whilst he does not do these things for anything in return, the time has come for the community to say ‘Thanks Oz’.”

In just 48 hours over $5,000 was raised, and that number has since soared past $28,000, a powerful testament to just how many lives Bayldon has touched.

“Oz is the epitome of the word ‘community,’” Birkhead says. So now’s the time for us to give back to the guy who’s always been there for us.
