'The Ringer’s Retired' is very much the work of two artists you can easily call “the real deal.”

For the first time, two of Australia’s most masterful singer-songwriters, Graeme Connors and Kelly Dixon, have teamed up for a beautiful collaboration called The Ringer’s Retired. Today, Countytown exclusively shares the music video.

An instant classic of Australian country and traditional Bush Ballads, Connors’ stunning, bright vocal contrasts with Dixon’s classic, rich voice, which is packed with depth and experience.

Shot in the town of Proston near Kingaroy in Southeast Queensland, videographer Luke Sartor captures the beauty of Australian farms and fields. Cows graze in footage of Dixon and Connors recording in the studio and enjoying farm life.

Towards the end of the video is one of the song and clip’s most affecting moments, where Dixon looks into the side mirror of a truck as Connors sings, “The ringer’s retired, he’s living the dream/ Busier now than he’s ever been.” And Dixon, at the age of 96, sure still does enjoy being busy.

You can watch the music video for The Ringer’s Retired below.

Like his new collaborator Kelly Dixon, Connors was recognised as an incredible songwriting talent at a young age.

Determined to tell the stories of Australia—the country’s landscapes and people—Connors, like Dixon, drew from characters and encounters from his life to become an essential part of his catalogue.

To date, Connors has released 20 albums, and his work is recognised for its distinctive “Australian-ness.” Like its creators, The Ringer’s Retired is very much the work of two artists you can easily call “the real deal.”

In his career, Dixon penned over 40 songs for the late Slim Dusty (including the hit Leave Him In The Longyard). The Ringer’s Retired is as genuine as its creators, with lyrics reminiscent of Australian classics penned by Henry Lawson and Banjo Patterson – its melody is memorable, and its lyrics reflect two of our great storytellers in their prime.

Graeme Connors will perform at Savannah In The Round festival this October. To find out more about this year’s event, head here.
