Piper Butcher did the country music community proud, making it into the top 24 on the singing competition series, Australian Idol. Showcasing her fresh blend of genres, the emerging artist impressed with her unique renditions of Imagine Dragons’ Radioactive, Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time, Avril Lavigne’s Complicated and more. Although Piper was eliminated before the top 12 live finals, she’s still a winner in our eyes.

5. Long Road

According to Piper, Long Road – co-written with fellow Groundwater KIX-Start competition top ten finalist Cassi Marie – covers the long road of heartbreak. The song was the third single released from her EP, September, released in 2021.

Piper says, “The lyrics provoke sorrow and frustration but proves that leaving unhealthy people behind is a difficult but prosperous journey.”

4. Before The Thunder

Before The Thunder immediately struck a chord with fans and the industry alike, emanating from the storyline where someone tries to cross the line to get what they want. The song builds with emotion, entrancing you with whimsical guitars and strong melodies.

3. Read Between The Lines

Released in 2022, Read Between the Lines is a fierce anthem that sets her apart from other new artists. Showcasing Piper’s passionate story telling with swooning bass lines, a strong chorus, and drums that pack a punch, it's evidently the most vulnerable Piper has been with her music. 

2. Haunting Your Thoughts

We couldn’t do this list without mentioning her incredible debut single, Haunting Your Thoughts. The song developed from an idea formulated by Piper and 2020-21 Toyota Star Maker winner Sammy White: what happens when a troublemaker doesn’t clean up their mess? The song peaked at #3 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and has attracted more than 50,000 streams on Spotify alone.

1. Unconscious Mind

Piper channels a path of discovery on her latest release, Unconscious Mind. Throughout her lyrics, she portrays the story of a mind-bending battle, between the power that people hold over each other, and how a minute choice can send you spiralling down a road to self-destruction.

Of the Matt Fell produced track, Piper says, “People crave freedom in their own lives, but sometimes the only person blocking that is themselves.”
