Steeped in honesty and candour, The Humbuckin’ Pickups weave intimacy with whit in this new single – Just Like Winter. Maldon Minstrel and Troubadour Foundation award winners, the four-piece Victorian outfit showcase not only their award-winning songwriting, but effortless musicianship as they explore themes of perceptions.

Comprised of Trevor Dwyer (dobro, banjo, harmony vocals), frontman Ewan Cloonan (vocals, guitar), Maxine Sutcliffe (double bass, harmony vocals) and Vinny Russell (mandolin, harmony vocals), Just Like Winter is the first single and title track from The Humbuckin’ Pickups forthcoming third studio album.

Cloonan says, "While the antagonist isn’t a real person… we've all met someone similar. They're fragile. They overcompensate. They're lost. They're searching. They seem overbearing. They're vulnerable. They're as warm as a winter's day. They're just like winter… however, this song shows that you don’t always understand their story and you shouldn’t pretend to.”

Cloonan says, “I had a great time filming the clip… and I think it’s a new band rule that for all future video clips also need to make sure we’re plied with delicious beer like we were at Watts River Brewery!”

Just Like Winter follows their 2019 album, The Well. In 2015, the band released their debut album Skullduggery, a completely live studio album which displayed their raw and heartfelt treatment of Cloonan's songs. This release saw the band's first single Dunedin Star climb atop the AMRAP regional charts in December of the same year, a sign of things to come for the group.

Asked what the future holds for the band, Sutcliffe says, “we have some very exciting announcements in the near future – to the tune of national touring… but more on that later.”
