More Piper Rodrigues More Piper Rodrigues

Creating a unique and curious sound that blurs the line between commercial and alt country, Piper Rodrigues is a dedicated and passionate singer-songwriter that takes influence from female powerhouses like Taylor Swift, Kelsea Ballerini, Brandi Carlile and Dolly Parton.

The CMAA Academy of country music graduate has supported household names such as Hayley Jensen and Catherine Britt. She’s achieved runner up stats in Today’s Country 94.1 ‘Brand New Star’ Competition and she was recognised as a finalist in the University of Newcastle’s band comp.

Her latest single, I Hate That I Love It, was co-written with Lyn Bowtell and produced by Shane Nicholson at The Sound Hole. I Hate That I Love It is a unique telling of Piper's relationship within her music. She notes this song as being written during a time where she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life but figured that she should start “where the love shines brightest.”

The accompanying music video, which premieres today exclusively on Country, was filmed around Newcastle, in a convenience shop, the tram line, and Bar Beach. Shot and directed by Jeremy Minett (Eyes + Ears Creative), it features Piper with Jack Hudson and Dave Javier on guitars.

“The overall concept for the video was for it to be spontaneous. After trying to secure a location we made the decision to use what we could around us and I love how it turned out!” says Piper.

"Shooting the video for I Hate That I Love It was some of the most fun I've ever had! I don't think we could've captured something closer to my personality with the sparkly glasses, pyjamas, and dorky dancing. I really love how impulsive and colourful it is!” she adds. “I feel like choosing to film all around Newcastle really highlights the vibe of the song and quite literally keeps it close to home which is where the song came from!"
