'Hold On/Fix You' is out now!

More Miller Yule More Miller Yule

New Zealand Americana singer-songwriter, Miller Yule has been a writing workhorse over the past few years. Whether it’s a soft acoustic ballad like Evergreen or an in your face, hard hitting rock banger such as Dynamite, Miller has got you covered. Off the back of the release of his debut album, Let It Burn comes Miller's new single, Hold On/Fix You.

Considering the mood behind the single, there’s no place like home, so it’s no surprise that Miller chose to record at Parachute Studios in Auckland with Scott Seabright. He’ll manage to keep up his single streak but most importantly, he wanted to inject some hope and resilience to those that may be struggling, as that’s what Hold On/Fix You is all about. Hope and resilience.

Miller’s new single Hold On/Fix You is an acoustic rendition of his album track Hold On, with a very noticeable addition of the Coldplay hit, Fix You to end the song.

As Miller explains, “Hold On is a personal song about holding on to hope during the struggle of depression. It’s inspired by my own experience managing, as well as trying to help friends and family who are going through their own struggles in life. The segue into Fix You by Coldplay is a fitting and moving outro to the track, giving the message that things can get better."

He adds, “I wanted to do the acoustic version to break the song back to its bare bones, letting the lyrics and honest performance speak for itself. It features my backing band accompanying me with their beautiful backing vocals which adds that extra warmth and strength to the track.”

The accompanying music video, which premieres today exclusively on Countrytown, was directed by Grégoire Aubourg with camera and lighting assisted by Elliot Yule.

“I love weaving these two songs together. Hold On is all about hope and resilience and Fix You reinforces that meaning. These two songs were made for each other!” Miller says. “Fix You is a beautiful song that I’ve loved since it came out when I was 13 years old. It’s an honour to be able to release my own take on it alongside one of my songs!”

Miller began playing the drums at age 11 and dreamed of being in a rock band so much that he would organise his own tours of local primary schools and dress up as a combination of his musical heroes to perform. Shortly after picking up the drums, his older brother taught him how to play Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes on the electric guitar. Finally, his father’s record collection of Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, Elton John, and Bruce Springsteen inspired Miller to begin his own musical journey in 2016.

His introductory folky-pop EP, Shoot Me In The Heart debuted at #4 on the New Zealand Albums Chart. He played every instrument on the EP and it was recorded and mixed by Miller and his producer/engineer father, Phil Yule, which earned them a joint NZ Music Award nomination that year. The EP’s folk-pop and honest song writing aesthetic proved popular with legendary American songwriter Ben Harper who asked Miller to join him on his 2016 New Zealand tour.

His 2017 single Diamonds opened the door and shed a light on a rockier sound and development to Miller’s songwriting. This dirtier, edgier side of Miller complemented his dynamic live performances such that in 2018 he released a 7-track live music and video EP (Miller Yule Live).

Miller received New Zealand On Air music funding for his 2021 single Lock Me Up. Evergreen followed in early 2022, and they both received a great response in New Zealand and Australia.
