We caught up with Canadian singer-songwriter Dan Davidson to find out what songs he’s listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.
Dan Davidson has scored 6 CCMA nominations, 10 ACMA awards, a gold record, a #1 selling Canadian song and record, and top 20 charting numbers, it’s an impressive feat for the independent country artist who is still only five years into his country career, following his over ten years playing in indie rock band Tupelo Honey.
While on tour with Brett Kissel in 2019, Dan’s EP Juliet was released, and debuted at #1 on the Canadian iTunes Country charts. He has recently been writing for/with Gord Bamford, Tim Hicks, W3apons, The Congregation, Chad Brownlee, The Standstills, and so many more. His latest single, the super catchy collaboration with The Road Hammers, Roll With It debuted at an impressive #19 on the Countrytown Music Network Hot 50 Country Airplay Chart.

The king is “back”. I love seeing new music from classic artists. There really is nothing better than a fun Alan Jackson song, and this one sounds just like what everyone loves about 90s country. I don’t think there could be a more perfect song for a 2021 road trip, right now. Thanks for reminding us what country sounds like Alan!
I’m a sucker for old school “Johnny and June” style duets and this song absolutely NAILS it. Corb is a real Canadian national treasure in my eyes. He's an actual rancher in southern Alberta and definitely a rare breed of cowboy singer that is reminiscent of classic artists such as Nelson, Wilf Carter, Hank Snow, etc. There is a real lighthearted honesty in this track that I think Australian country fans might dig!
Who doesn’t love trucker tinged country?? It’s dusty southern rock with big chorus’ and some delicious twang. All I can see is dirt roads and motorcycles when I hear this one! A great way to kick off a Canadian summer! I actually was the producer on this track, which was an intimidating experience! It’s not every day that I get to produce one of the highest selling country bands in Canada! These guys have lots of gold and platinum records on their walls … hopefully they will send me one for this track too!
Brett and I got to tour together on Canada’s longest ever tour, which was over 100 shows. This tour was basically my entire life in 2018 and parts of 2019. Seeing this guy entertain a crowd is really something else - he definitely channels a little of Garth Brooks. Every time I hear one of his songs, I can just visualise his live show … I think that’s why I’m drawn to his tunes! Plus – the amazing song-writing. This is a hit!
I just love Hayley Jensen. Her music, her song-writing, her work ethic – everything! I got the chance to write with her and co-produce a couple songs on her upcoming record and was extremely impressed. She’s got little Carrie Underwood in her but with a little more attitude! This song has a very cool music video that goes with it, too – great track!
