We caught up with Claudia Tripp to find out what songs she’s been listening to for this week’s Front Deck Boom Box.
2023 Toyota Star Maker finalist, Claudia Tripp wrote her first song at the age of seven in her hometown, Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. She began gigging around Perth aged 12, both acoustically and with bands, after teaching herself to play guitar. Two years later, she was nominated for a ‘WAM Song of the Year’ award with an original acoustic demo.
Since the release of her 2017 debut EP, Fugitive, she has gone on to release six more singles, with I Only Miss You When I’m Drunk being the most recent. The bubble-gum pop production and honest lyrics make the song instantly catchy, with relatable post-breakup lyrics.
Claudia says, “I Only Miss You When I’m Drunk is a song I wrote about a post breakup experience that seems to be pretty universal for people. Here you think you’re totally “over it” and then something happens that sends you back to square one of the healing process (like getting drunk and suddenly wanting to call them).”

Queen of Daytona Beach by Seaforth, it instantly transports me to the beach living a summer dream. Those guys don’t miss – every song they release becomes one of my new favourites! If you haven’t yet listened to this song at full volume while driving down the coast with your windows down, you’re missing out on one hell of an experience.

Started A Band by Ben Burgess is just... wow. His voice and production are incredible, but the highlight of this song is the STORY! I had to get out of my car halfway through the song and I was itching to know what happens in the end, every time I listen to it, I feel like I’m watching a movie.
I recently rediscovered the song Mousetrap Heart by Thirsty Merc, and it has taken over my brain and my car stereo. I love everything those guys release, their songwriting and musicianship has always made them one of my go-to bands to listen to, so it was nice that I fell in love with this song all over again.
My favourite band of all time is the Eagles so it would be wrong to not include one of theirs in this list! Every week I’ve got a new particular favourite from their discography, and I play it on repeat, this week specifically it’s New Kid in Town. The harmonies, the lyrics, the music, it makes my soul so happy.
I’m loving Pink Champagne by Carrie Underwood. I’m addicted!! When that song comes on, the car windows are instantly down, and you’ll probably hear me singing along from wherever you are in Australia. It’s such a feel-good track, and the production is out of this world. I’m loving all the songs on her new album, but especially that one.
