Complicated by Duncan Toombs and Lozz Benson – Premiere

Filmmaker and sought-after guitarist to the stars, Duncan Toombs steps out from behind the lens for new single Complicated featuring vocalist and drummer Lozz Benson, who was a Top 5 finalist on The Voice in 2021. Out on September 16, but premiering today exclusively on Countrytown, Complicated is an upbeat, dynamic vocal collaboration with powerful whaling vocals. It's our Song of the Day!

“Complicated is song about life and the way that simple tasks these days start out simple but become all of a sudden stupidly complicated! The chorus vents about the fact that most of us are raised in the matrix that we call society and sold a theory of how we need to live to achieve the dream of wealth and happiness,” he says. “Crazy thing is there’s a lot of people (mostly on social media) who seem to be able to fake it without even breaking a sweat. That’s the cool thing about getting older, I guess. We see things clearer and know how to cut through the bullshit. Life isn’t supposed to be complicated. I’m 45 now and I feel like I’m finally starting to figure this game out.”

Complicated follows his debut track, Run, which received great support on country radio and scored additions on Spotify’s ‘Fresh Country’ and ‘Country Chill’ playlists, as well as multiple Apple Music editorial playlists. It also topped over 200k streams worldwide.

Complicated and Run are off his forthcoming debut album, Steel On Steel, which includes 12 original songs about his life, family and love and was recorded at The Music Cellar with an all-star band handpicked by Duncan and his co-producers, Scott Bird and Rod McCormack.

“I’d almost finished writing the song but asked Lozz to help me finish the words to the 3rd verse,” recalls Duncan. “I never set out to write a duet or a vocal collaboration… but once I played and sang it through with Lozz in my studio there was no other way for the song to be delivered.”

As the 7x Golden Guitar award winning director at The Filmery, Duncan is more than comfortable behind the camera. However, when it came time to shoot a music video for Complicated, he found himself in unfamiliar territory.

“It was my first time front and centre on the other side of the camera lens. I was extremely nervous and anxious,” he confesses. “Thank God I was surrounded by my awesome filming family from The Filmery. What an amazing day it was!”

As well as releasing his second solo single, Duncan is joining Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole on their The Great Country Songbook Volume 3 national tour, which is now running right through till February 2023. See dates here.

Duncan has previously toured and recorded with Kasey Chambers, Adam Brand, Lyn Bowtell, Drew McAlister, Mike Carr and Lee Kernaghan (to name a few) and was an integral member of the Golden Guitar award winning group the Adam Eckersley Band for 3 years.
