Blake Dantier returns with his latest single, Wish You Were My Beer – and we’re so honoured to premiere the extremely comedic music video for you all today! It's also our Song of the Day!
Wish You Were My Beer transports you back to a time when nobody bat an eye at a pair of boots and a cowboy hat, and a little bit of tele twang was as common as renting your favourite flick on VHS. It was recorded in August 2020 by Simon Johnson at his Hillbilly Hut studio, and comes as the result of some first-hand experience in the creation of beer itself.
Blake says: “For many, 2020 was a big year for new hobbies – for me, that was brewing beer. It started off with just a couple of Coopers tins from Dan Murphy’s. The next thing I knew I’d bought a 40L pot and was making it up from scratch. Now it’s gotten to the point where I work in an actual brewery a couple of days a week! With that much beer on the brain it was inevitable I’d write something about it.”
The music was shot with Duncan Toombs from The Filmery on the Central Coast of NSW. Blake came up with the story board for the video after watching way too much Saturday Night Live during COVID. If you’re a SNL viewer, you’d know they have a lot of game show skits, with a lot of wacky hosts. The creator and producer of the show is named Lorne Michaels, so Blake called his game show host in the clip Lorne Donovan. Lorne is brash, sleazy, stylish and a little bit unhinged – everything a 70s game show host should be.

Since its release in January, Wish You Were My Beer has been receiving extensive radio airplay across Australia. The track follows his singles, Ash & Dust and I’d Do It Again, both of which spent 9 weeks in the Music Network’s Country Hot 50 airplay charts, with the latter winning 'Country Rock Song of the Year' at the Tamworth Songwriters Salute Awards.
Blake’s debut EP is set for release mid-year, which is set to be an unapologetically country collection of bittersweet ballads, raucous barroom anthems and everything in between.
