Camille Trail and Brad Butcher’s Holding Pattern brings the two gifted Queenslanders together for the first time, and Countrytown has your first listen for this exclusive premiere.
Camille and Brad both live near Rockhampton and share a love of roots music. They’d been toying with the idea of touring together for a while, and when Camille heard the demo of Holding Pattern, she immediately knew who she wanted to sing it with.
Camille says, “I first met Brad in about 2018 when I was at Uni in Brisbane. We wrote a song together and I subsequently grew to love his music. We’ve come to know each other more now that I’m working in the music industry and we don’t live far from each other. I was completely stoked when he agreed to sing Holding Pattern with me”.
Holding Pattern was written by ARIA and Golden Guitar winner Shane Nicholson with Matt Benbrook and Amy Lawton on a writing trip to London in 2019. Shane also produced the track, having produced Camille’s three singles to date, as well as her forthcoming album.

Shane says, “Holding Pattern is a song I wrote in London with Matty Benbrook and Amy Lawton (pre-Covid). I had no real plans for the song, so when Camille asked to record it as a duet with Brad Butcher, I was stoked! Especially because they both sing like bloody angels, and they ultimately sold the story of the song perfectly.”
Its music video was directed by Levi Appleton, who worked last year with Brad on I Walk the Line Revisited. The video shot took place at 45 On East, a café and music venue in Rockhampton.
Camille was born, raised and still lives and works on her family’s cattle farm west of Rockhampton. After graduating from JMC Academy in Brisbane, she released her debut single and video Humming Chain in 2019. Her second single Devil’s Drink peaked at #19 on the Music Network Country Airplay chart, and its follow up Little History has over 110k streams to date. The 22-year-old will be hitting the road in August supporting Shane Nicholson, and will also open select shows for Michael Waugh.
Brad is a dual Golden Guitar winner – ‘Best New Talent’ in 2018 and ‘Alt Country Album of the Year’ in 2020 for his fourth studio album Travelling Salesman. The singer-songwriter’s third album From The Bottom Of a Well peaked at #4 on the iTunes Country Albums Chart and features the award-winning single, Well Dressed Man and hit single Crawl, Beg & Cry, which spent 6 months on the Music Network Australian Country Radio airplay chart peaking at #2. He is currently working on his next studio album.
