Painted last year, both artworks represent his grandparents and the rivers they are from.
The first, the grey painting, is titled the Clarence River. Cassar-Daley explains: “My grandfather has ties to the Clarence river. His mother was a Bundjalung woman our family are all deeply connected to that river, we swam, fished and camped on it all our lives.”
The second, the blue painting, is titled the Orana River. He explains: “My grandmother, being a Gumbaynggirr woman, was from the southern side of the Clarence. This river connects up to all the places we still visit to this day with our families. We still catch and eat turtles and fish there and our sense of belonging does not get any stronger than these rivers.”
Bidding for both paintings ends on Sunday, April 17 at 5pm AEST.
In support of the Secret Sounds Flood Aid, Secret Sounds has announced a range of fundraising initiatives to assist with recovery across the region, with a target of raising $1 million in one month and a commitment that 100% of money raised will go directly to flood affected communities. All money raised through Secret Sounds Flood Aid campaign will be distributed between four key organisations (Lifeline, GIVIT, Koori Mail and Northern Rivers Flood Relief Fund) to provide direct assistance where it is needed.
As well as Cassar-Daley’s original paintings, a number of other items are up for auction including tickets to Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s upcoming tours, festival passes, sports and music memorabilia, dinners, adventure flights, hotel accommodation, songwriting and DJ courses, and exclusive experiences such as playing golf with Bernard Fanning and Pat Davern of Grinspoon.
Other initiatives include various fundraiser gigs and ‘Where The Muddy Hell Are You’ limited edition merchandise.
