Some of the best groups in music over recent decades have been the result of team-ups via talent shows, and celebrity coach of The Voice Australia, LeeAnn Rimes, has just contributed her own duo.
The Voice, which held its third and final Battles round on Sunday night, saw each coach having to cut their teams by half, eliminating some of the competition from the chance to win it all.
With eight rounds of duets and the choice between two to six artists, the pressure was on, and tension filled the Carriageworks studio.
For one of the final duets of the night, country singers Tori Darke and Brad Butcher sang the heartbreak ballad Please Forgive Me by Bryan Adams.
With Butcher’s husky twang and Darke’s belting, the two came together for some goosebump-inducing harmonies, causing the crowd to erupt with excitement.
Prompted by host Sonya Kruger on who to pick, coach Rimes said didn’t like having to choose, before swiftly walking off set.

Returning to a confused crowd a few minutes later, Rimes gave the two singers a proposition.
“This is really hard for me because I love both of you equally. I love the way your harmonies sound together; I love your voices together.”
“Is there ever a world where you would consider going through as a duo?”
The decision left the room shocked, raising the odds for the singers: it either meant one party would go home and one would stay on, or both could continue on together.
“It’s like, do you take a hundred bucks now or the chance to win a thousand.” Fellow coach Kate Miller-Heidke put it best.
After some time to deliberate, Butcher and Darke decided to work as a duo for the rest of the competition, giving both artists a chance at stardom.
Among other winners of the night were Elias Lanyon and Nethra Raman from Team Kate, Stephanie Milostic, Lana Sayah, Chloe Kay from Team Adam, and James Vass from Team Guy. Reuben De Melo was also a winner for Team LeAnn among the newly formed duo.
While the Battle rounds may be over, The Voice’s Knockouts will begin next Sunday (6th October). Each of the four coaches will be reducing their teams even further, from seven to a mere two per team. Tune in on Channel 7 or 7Plus to see more.
