Last week, Sam Hunt’s team announced that the American singer-songwriter would no longer be performing at Canada’s Boots & Hearts Festival due to “ongoing government restrictions.”

The statement read, “We were hopeful these restrictions would be lifted as the date got closer, but it’s now apparent that won’t happen.”

Although the reason wasn’t specified, some speculated it had something to do with the DUI he plead guilty to in August 2021, while others were convinced that the vaccine requirement was the sole factor, as is required for American travellers to cross the border.

Hunt has now cleared up the confusion, confirming that it was the vaccination policy that forced him to cancel his appearance this Friday, August 5. In an Instagram post, Hunt responded to a fan who asked about his cancelled appearance at the festival. He said, “I wish we were still playing. I was looking forward to it. Canada is still requiring the vaccine.”

The multi-day, Boots & Hearts country music and camping festival is slated for this weekend on August 4th through 7th, and will feature 40 artists across four days, including Shania Twain, Florida Georgia Line, Niko Moon, Lindsay Ell, Russell Dickerson, Dustin Lynch, Morgan Evans and more. Jake Owen will replace Hunt as the Friday night headliner.

In May, Hunt welcomed his first child, a daughter, Lucy Lu, with wife, Hannah Lee Fowler.
