Just in time for her return to Australia this October, Megan Moroney has hinted that album #3 is almost finished and it’s more “carefree and happy” than her previous albums.

Megan Moroney is trading some of the tears for a little more sunshine on her upcoming third album, though don’t worry, the emo cowgirl is still alive and well.

While walking the red carpet at the 2025 American Music Awards, the Tennessee Orange singer gave PEOPLE a peek behind the curtain, revealing that her next project is already well underway. “I would say that my next album is probably like 80% written,” she said. “I just try to live my life and write about it. So that’s kind of how this next album is shaping up too - just like the last ones.”

Moroney has quickly become one of country music’s most relatable voices by writing through heartbreak, healing, and everything in between. And while that emotional rawness isn’t going anywhere, fans can expect a lighter vibe this time around. “I would say I’ve still got the emo cowgirl staples on there because it wouldn’t be a Megan Moroney album without some heart-wrenching thing,” she said with a laugh. “But I do think it’s lighter and it’s really fun.”

Since her breakout with Lucky in 2023, Moroney’s candid songwriting has built a loyal fanbase who connect deeply with her honesty. And she’s fully aware of the impact. “There’s definitely strength in being painfully honest, even if it’s hard to talk about whatever it is,” she said. “If I can be the one that tells [younger fans] it’s going to be okay, or I once felt this way and now I don’t, I think it’s brave, and I don’t feel weaker for it.”

On top of wrapping up the writing process, Moroney is deep in her Am I Okay? tour, which is set to roll through the summer and even all the way down to Australia for the Ridin’ Hearts Festival. Tickets to Ridin’ Hearts are on sale Monday, June 2 via axs.com.au
