On April 29, the Port Macquarie based Make a Difference charity will stage the 2023 Ride the Soundwave music festival as part of the broader Ride the Wave Festival featuring surf and skate events competitions.
All of the funds raised from the ticketed Ride the Soundwave music festival will help the Make a Difference charity do just as their name suggests – make a difference to homeless and disadvantaged people in the Hastings region of the Mid North Coast.
The 2023 Ride The Soundwave Music festival features an epic line-up including Boy & Bear, The Waifs, Busby Marou and Tullara rocking the beachside stage.

The Make a Difference charity currently feed more than 400 people – including families and children – five days a week, for people experiencing hardship in the Hastings region. Proceeds from the sale of the 5,000 tickets to the Ride the Soundwave music festival will support the vital services that Make a Difference provide throughout the year.
Ride the Wave Festival is an action-packed weekend that includes the ticketed Ride the Soundwave music event, a 3-day Ride The Wave Junior Surf Pro run in conjunction with Surfing NSW and an epic Skate Competition as well as markets, a family fun zone and other activities.
“So far, the surf and skate events have really taken off and are fully subscribed each year, so they’re here to stay. It’s the music event that needs more support, so we’re hoping people who love live music will get behind us and make the event a success so that it can become an annual fixture on the Port Macquarie calendar,” said festival organiser and Make a Difference committee member Erin Denham. “We need to sell all of our tickets for this to happen - with 100% of all money raised going back to Make a Difference, and helping those in need. It’s a win win – festival goers will get to enjoy an awesome line-up in a spectacular setting for a great price, all while feeling great that they’ve in essence made a charity donation to help those in need.”
Denham, along with her husband Robert, founded the charity in 2016 with a simple mission to provide a service for locals in need.
“When we started with Make a Difference, we discovered a need we didn’t know existed with marginalised people in our region. More than 600 people sleep rough on the Mid North Coast every day, and across the state there are more than 50,000 people waiting for public housing. There is a real housing crisis – and some of those we help aren’t yet living on the street – but as the cost of living keeps rising, they’re teetering on the brink. We supply support five days a week, with the other two days very well covered by other services who were already operating then,” said Denham.
Tickets to the festival are on-sale now. Find out more via Ride The Wave Festival.
