Following the postponement announcement for the 2022 Tamworth Country Music Festival, the 50th Anniversary Golden Guitar Awards will now take place.

Following the postponement of the 2022 Tamworth Country Music Festival, the 50th Anniversary Golden Guitar Awards will now take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday, April 20.

The red carpet will kick off the evening from 5pm in the Tamworth Regional Entertainment Conference Centre (TRECC) forecourt.

The nominees for the 50th Golden Guitar Awards were announced on Tuesday, 23 November 2021 by Golden Guitar winner, Kirsty Lee Akers and her husband, Jesse Anderson, at the Tamworth Town Hall, the place where the very first Golden Guitar was handed out back in 1973.

More than 760 entries were submitted for the 2022 awards, smashing the previous record of 656 entries in 2019. Multi-award-winning artist and Aussie icon, Troy Cassar-Daley topped the list with eight nominations, followed by The Wolfe Brothers with seven nods and Shane Nicholson with five.

CMAA Chairman, Dan Biddle said, “The list of talented nominees shows just how diverse, creative and inspiring Australia’s country music industry is right now. The record number of entries is a true testament to the resilience and passion of our artists and industry professionals.”

Amid COVID concerns, which led to the cancellation of the 2021 festival, the 49th Golden Guitar Awards were presented in a smaller intimate setting with table seating for the first time. Having been a huge success, this year’s awards will follow suit with table seating confirmed for both artists, industry and the general public as well as tied theatre style seating. Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

The Tamworth Country Music Festival will be held from April 18-24, 2022.
