Five of country music’s most successful songwriters will be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame this year.
David Bellamy (of The Bellamy Brothers fame) will be inducted under the veteran songwriter/artist category. He’ll be joined by Al Anderson and Liz Rose (under the contemporary songwriter category) and Dan Penn and Victoria Shaw (under the veteran songwriter category).
There might have been one other inductee if the timing had worked out right. However, this year’s top vote-getter in the contemporary songwriter/artist category, Brad Paisley, can’t attend this year’s ceremony due to a scheduling conflict, so he’ll be officially inducted at the Hall’s Class of 2025.
The Class of 2024 will be formally inducted during the 54th Anniversary Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala on Wednesday, 6 November, at the Music City Centre.
Bellamy is being inducted thanks to his successful recording of many of his own compositions with his brother and writing partner Howard, such as If I Said You Have A Beautiful Body (Would You Hold It Against Me), Old Hippie, and Crazy From The Heart.

Meanwhile, amongst “Big Al” Anderson’s best-known songs are Powerful Thing by Trisha Yearwood, Big Deal by LeAnn Rimes, The Cowboy In Me by Tim McGraw, Trip Around The Sun by Jimmy Buffett & Martina McBride, Love’s Gonna Make It Alright by George Strait, and Loving You Easy by The Zac Brown Band. There are even more we can name, with Anderson having had songs recorded by Vince Gill, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, and others.
Liz Rose has developed a reputation for being one of Nashville’s most in-demand songwriters, having collaborated with Taylor Swift across 20 songs, including Tim McGraw, Teardrops On My Guitar, You Belong With Me, White Horse, and the ten-minute version of All Too Well. Rose has also worked with the likes of Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, and more.
The final two inductees from the Class of 2024, Dan Penn and Victoria Shaw, have worked with country legends and stars from outside the genre.
Penn is known for hits including Do Right Woman, Do Right Man by Aretha Franklin, The Dark End Of The Street by James Carr, and I’m Your Puppet by James & Bobby Purify, while Victoria Shaw is known for Garth Brooks’ The River, I Love The Way You Love Me by John Michael Montgomery, and Nobody Wants To Be Lonely by popstars Ricky Martin and Christina Aguilera.
In a statement, the Chair of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Board of Directors, Rich Hallworth, said of this year’s inductees:
Gathering for this occasion – to recognize and welcome the members of our incoming class – is always one of the highlights of our year. To this stellar group of songwriters, we say thank you for your songs and for your artistry. You are exceptional talents, and we will proudly honor you this fall, when you officially join your legendary peers in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
