Keith Urban Nominated For Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Keith Urban is up for consideration for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Class Of 2023.

Additional nominees, which were announced across the categories of Contemporary Songwriter/Artists on June 30, are The Chicks’ fiddle player Martie Maguire, Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman, and the duo of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

The 2023 nominees in the Contemporary Songwriters category are Casey Beathard, Shawn Camp, Jim Collins, Don Henry, David Lee Murphy, Leslie Satcher, Darrell Scott and Victoria Shaw.

Of those nominated, a total of two songwriters and one songwriter/artist will be elected into the Fall of Fame. The new group will be honoured at the 53rd Anniversary NaSHOF Gala on Wednesday, October 11 at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We congratulate this year’s nominees in our contemporary categories. Their nominations are richly deserved,” NaSHOF Executive Director Mark Ford said in a press release. “We look forward in several weeks to announcing those who will be inducted this fall as members of our Class of 2023.”

In addition, three more will be named to the Class of 2023. A separate body of veteran voters will elect a Veteran Songwriter, a Veteran Songwriter/Artist and a Legacy Songwriter (deceased), all of whom experienced their first significant songs at least 30 years ago. As part of that process, nominees in those categories are not announced.

“The Hall of Fame boasts members from all genres of music who have reached the pinnacle of their craft,” the organisation states. “Induction into the Hall of Fame is one of the nation’s highest songwriting honours and the highest honour that can be bestowed by the Nashville songwriting community.”

Urban moved to Nashville in 1992, two years after the release of his self-titled debut album. In 1997, he formed a band known as The Ranch. The Ranch album subsequently was nominated for the ‘Best Country Album’ at the 1997 ARIA Music Awards. It peaked at #82 on the Australian ARIA Chart and #34 on the US Billboard Top Country Albums Chart – and was the beginning of his lucrative career.

To date, Urban has won four GRAMMY Awards, six ARIA awards, fourteen Golden Guitars, thirteen CMAs, fifteen ACMs, three AMAs, two People’s Choice Awards, and celebrated nine consecutive gold, platinum, or multi-platinum albums. He has had numerous chart-topping placements in Australia, the U.S., the U.K., and other countries worldwide. Not to mention, Urban has collaborated with a diverse group of artists including Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, BRELAND, Miranda Lambert, Nile Rodgers, Taylor Swift and more.

Urban was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in 2012. He was later appointed Officer of the Order of Australia at the 2020 Australia Day Honours for “distinguished service to the performing arts as a singer and songwriter, and to charitable organisations.” He has been married to actress Nicole Kidman since 2006. They share two daughters – Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.
