Kaitlin Butts has always worn her heart on her sleeve and liked to have a bit of fun, and recently she took that to a whole new level by helping two of her closest friends get engaged in front of thousands of fans.
During a stop in Oklahoma City, Butts brought out her tour manager and longtime friend, Sophia Wells, under the guise of a wardrobe mishap. “Welcome to the stage Sophia Wells, everybody,” she told the crowd. “This is my tour manager. I’m kinda glad this is happening. We actually met here in Oklahoma City about 13 years ago. This is my college roommate from Oklahoma City, we went to college here. Say hello, Sophia!”
What started as a fun trip down memory lane quickly turned into a moment neither Wells nor the audience will forget. Butts continued, “Two years ago today or this month I guess, this beautiful woman…don’t go anywhere” as Wells began to walk away, Butts pulled her back in: “This beautiful woman DM-ed me on Instagram. She was kinda drunk and said, ‘Hey, your guitar player’s really cute and really hot, or am I just drunk? Do you need a background singer?’ And I said, ‘No, but I need a tour manager.’”
Since then for the last two years, Wells has been part of the Kaitlin Butts team, and that guitarist? None other than Adam Duran, who appeared behind her mid-speech, down on one knee, ring in hand. Wells turned, stunned, as the crowd erupted. She nodded yes through tears and cheers.
Butts posted the video with the caption, “10/10 recommend helping your best friends get engaged in front of 5,000 people.” Wells added her own tribute on Instagram: “July has been good to me”
Butts recently went viral with her powerful track You Ain’t Gotta Die (To Be Dead to Me) capturing hearts with its raw vocals, poignant lyrics, and haunting acoustic vibe. The song’s cheekiness earned her thousands of shares and comments from fans who say it’s the anthem they didn’t know they needed.
