A new film which combines the genres of comedy and country music is set to premiere in early 2027, it has been revealed.

The as-yet-untitled film is reportedly in the works via Judd Apatow, who is directing from a script that he and actor Glen Powell co-wrote.

Set to arrive on February 5th, 2027, little is known about the film as yet, though Variety reports that it will focus on Powell as he portrays a “country music star in free fall.”

“I’ve definitely been getting the pipes warmed up,” he told the publication recently.

Powell will star in the film alongside Cristin Milioti, who has previously showed off her musical skills in a stage production of the musical film Once. Her performance earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress In A Musical, and saw her take home a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album alongside fellow star Steve Kazee.

Likewise, Apatow has previously dipped his toe into the world of music previously as well. While he served as the co-director of 2017 documentary film May It Last: A Portrait Of The Avett Brothers.

Apatow also co-produced the 2016 mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Apatow was also co-writer and co-producer of 2007 musical comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

The film, which starred John C. Reilly as the titular musician, and follows his life as he enters the world of music and becomes a star – parodying many previous musical biopics and underlining the inappropriate casting that many such films have experienced over the years.

Stavros Halkias has also been confirmed to feature in the film, having previously risen to fame on the long-running Cum Town podcast.

Further details regarding the production of the film – including its specific plot, casting, and title – are expected to follow in the coming months.
