Fanny Lumsden ProfileLast month, Australian country music star Fanny Lumsden announced that her fifth album, Traditions, is coming soon.
Featuring the hard-hitting single Difficult Woman, a river song with recent tour mate Paul Kelly, and the recently released Mother’s Eyes, Traditions is set to continue Lumsden’s phenomenal career trajectory.
The album is being released physically and digitally, and hitting streaming, on Friday, 30 October. Today, she unveils the Countrytown exclusive edition of the record: a stunning sky-blue stained-glass window-coloured variant, pressed on 140-gram vinyl.

Lumsden said of the themes behind her latest record:
As I’ve got older, I’ve begun to realise the value and meaning that can come from traditions; however, what I’m still learning is how to balance the ideas of who I am with those traditions, and that they are all allowed to change as we go.
I loved that Traditions brings up so much discussion for people. Traditions and families are messy. I can value the traditions of my family whilst also understanding that they were born of a flawed system. There is more to traditions than being steadfast; I think I’m discovering the movement and change they need to survive.
I am here now, trying to marry my autonomy and ambitions with my farming family’s traditions. Perhaps belonging is found when traditions are alive, in traditions that grow – and maybe some need to be just left behind to move forward.
Traditions was recorded live with Lumsden’s touring band, the Daddies, at Soundpark Studios in Melbourne, with Steven Schram. Home to songs that showcase rural heartfelt storytelling, rock-inspired tunes, and bluegrass-indebted songs, it’s another must-listen release from Lumsden.
The album follows Lumsden’s ARIA Award-winning – and Dolly Parton-presented – fourth album, Hey Dawn, which debuted at #1 on the Australian Album Chart and was the highest-selling country album of 2023 in Australia.
Hey Dawn marked Lumsden’s second album to crack the ARIA overall albums top ten chart and continued her run of independently releasing albums via her own Red Dirt Road Records.
Lumsden launches Traditions with a tour kicking off on Saturday, 31 October, and continuing across the East Coast throughout November. Plus, she’ll perform at the 2027 Tamworth Country Music Festival.
